Dear Teens and other young people,
There are many reasons why you should be aware of what you are doing online. Firstly, you have no control over what goes on when you put you’re information on the net. Second, you should know the dangers of internet surfing, blogging, and making internet pages. Predators are everywhere; the internet is a fun, but dangerous place.
Most importantly, you need to know what could happen. You may think that you’re slick and smart for having a Myspace underage, BUT YOUR NOT. You are at risk! Putting any information about yourself, weather it be false or real, is precarious. It can lead to: Someone finding you, rape, murder/homicide, and grief and depression on your end. You are subjectable to robbery and viruses. There is not software protective enough for your computer to be safe from everything. POP-UPS, FRAUD, VIRUSIS, PAY ATTENTION!
You need to know what to do, how to be safe; what happens when your not. I know from previous experience that you do not want to put things like numbers, addresses, EVEN NAMES! I know you think that this information is just for the “stupid’ people but who’s going to explain to your mother that what happened when a 40 year old man or woman took you…can you explain?
You don’t know all the tricks of the people. They can get you very easily. Advertisements, Everyone wants a iphone or a new MP4 player right? Well that’s exactly how they get you. They could be anybody from rapists trying to find you, to sales people trying to sell a product. It is very easy for you to want to play a game, on the side of your webpage or it says you won, CLICK ME! Next thing you know you’ll be buying a new computer because its too many viruses to reboot.
In closing, I would like to say that YOU, YES YOU, need to BE AWARE! Don’t be fooled into giving info. Know what you’re doing when you decide to join a chat room. Learn that everyone isn’t always who they say they are. Surf the internet; don’t let the internet surf you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sincerely,
Ayanna Dye

My letter to an artist (and his response)
July 25, 2007
Email: indaysha_eddy@yahoo.com
Dear Mr. Abeles,
I am Ayanna Dye and I would like to discuss with you a very important topic. I want to know your views and opinions on why we need art. I am discussing this on an online blog at http://unite2007collegewriting-aed.blogspot.com/ if you would like to observe. I think that art is something that everyone needs in their life and that some people don’t know that. However, if you would be so kind as to tell me your opinion I believe that would consider it and learn to appreciate it more. Please hear me out and ask any questions if need-be.
I was searching for some great artist with accomplishments such as yours and, fortunately, I stumbled upon your internet page. Something I would like to ask you is: do you have any other artists that you would recommend for me? I would love to have more than one great artist helping me on my quest.
Right now I would like to explain to you why I feel that art is a necessity. Firstly, art is creativity and a major way for you to express yourself. Every where you go there is art; there’s no escape from its beauty. What I want is for those who don’t have the artistic eye to see what art does for them. For me it is a stress reliever, an emotional outlet, and a way to discover things about myself and others. The only reasons why I feel so strongly about this is because people praise sports and know everything about them, but when you ask who painted My Son and His Cat Orville they wouldn’t know! This disappoints me because artists made the gyms that the sports teams play in! So I would like to ask you to help me not let this happen anymore.
In closing, please tell me your opinions: do you think that art already gets enough publicity? Do people take enough time to notice? Or am I forcing something where it doesn’t fit? There are benefits in knowing about art, but everyone may not see them the same way as me. I NEED GUIDENCE FROM THE BEST! Will you help me sir?
Sincerely,
Ayanna Dye
his response.....
Dear Ayanna Dye,
You pose extremely painful issues, have I mostly been whistling in the dark all these year, I fear I have. I make art for deep internal needs plus a great love of what meaningful art has given me, lifelong. I taught for decades and asked each new class, "Did your parents take you to art museums, have any art books, own any original art?" Mine did not and very, very few of my students had those experiences, except my more fortunate Wellesley College students. The art articles in Life magazine hooked me on art and made me determined to become an artist and work as hard as I can to learn to draw well enough to communicate via art. I would watch people flip by the art page in Time mag. on subways and buses. I personally don't give one damn about sports, except those with horses, especially polo, I know those stars, but who else does?We are told more folks pay to go to art museums than to baselball games, but somehow it doesn't seem real.I am only interested in art that is humanistic. Abstraction and installation, computer art, etc. mostly seems to turn off the public so that art is not accessible to these masses of people; much more so than when I was young, then the average Joe, knew what Andrew Wyeth and Picasso and Dali were doing, even if it didn't touch him/her.. I just do not know what can be done, except what is in our hearts and minds, if you can heighten awareness somehow, please do so!!!!!! I consider you special if you are deeply moved my still, hand made, visual works, where an artist has opened themselves up via empathy.Look up Jerome Witkin, Vincent Deserderio, Paul Matthews and of course Lucian Freud. Thanks for bothering yourself with these real questions and finding me and my work and making contact. All good wishes and I am so glad you know who made My Son Max and His Cat, Orville. I long ago gave up on dreaming of being "a household name", but if you can help that, all power to you.

Hello I’m Ayanna Dye and without further ado I PRESENT TO YOU----
The world and its ART
(INTRO TO ART)
I believe that art is a major part of our lives. I would like to show everyone willing to know, just how important it is. With everything we see touch and use there is art. Art, of course is made by artists. Many people don’t know this because there are many different forms of art and different kinds of artists. For example your furniture is mad by a type of artist called a carpenter, and your gourmet meals are made by culinary artists.
THE ART WE KNOW OF
Everyday art!
Some primary examples of everyday art are:
1) Flowers
2) Food
3) Cell phones
4) Dishes (we eat out of)
5) Your zippers
6) M&M candies
7) Barcodes
~*~*THERE IS ART EVERYWHERE!!!!*~*~there is so much that art and artist can teach you. What I want to tell everybody is APRECIEATE YOUR ART!

Why we need artists
Art is something that everyone needs. Some people may think that we don’t need art. However, there are many reasons why I feel this is not true. Without art the world would be gray. There would be nothing to look at, nothing to hear, and nowhere to go.
The people who believe that we don’t need art are the same ones who always stereotype the subject. They think that art is slapping paint on paper or drawing lines on a wall, a square and a circle of different colors. What they do not know is that it is much more than that. In the world there is a wide range of things that fall under the category of art. These “things” range from music to sciences and back again.
The most important thing when it comes to art is of course who makes it! People who create art are called artists. They all have different styles, Tastes, interests and different mediums. Some artists focus on one strong point while others do everything.
Artists of course, have major stereotypes. Many think you have to be demented and (a) drunk to be an artist. THAT IS NOT TRUE! Artists vary and I think its time the media started showing the artists that make are world beautiful.

MY INFO-PEPS
There are many others who have addressed the same issue as I have today. ART IN EVERYDAY LIFE, an Essay by Marvin Bartel tells a lot. It says that there is art in our surroundings that we should take time to notice. I agree fully. When reading the article I found out a powerful word- Aesthetics, witch means sensitive to art and beauty. I read on to find out some things that I hadn’t even thought of. The article also says that art can be used to teach values. I know there is much more for me to find so this will be updated!
My sources
1) Applying labels: artist discuss their work, Kristen Rhodes
2) Art Instruction, Daniel Lombardo
3) Modernism, Postmodernism, or Neither? A Fresh Look at “Fine Art’
4) ART IN EVERYDAY LIFE, Marvin Bartel
Unfortunately this is all I have so far……
BUT DON’T WORRY!!!!!!
THERES MUCH MORE ON THE WAY!
