Dear Teens and other young people,
There are many reasons why you should be aware of what you are doing online. Firstly, you have no control over what goes on when you put you’re information on the net. Second, you should know the dangers of internet surfing, blogging, and making internet pages. Predators are everywhere; the internet is a fun, but dangerous place.
Most importantly, you need to know what could happen. You may think that you’re slick and smart for having a Myspace underage, BUT YOUR NOT. You are at risk! Putting any information about yourself, weather it be false or real, is precarious. It can lead to: Someone finding you, rape, murder/homicide, and grief and depression on your end. You are subjectable to robbery and viruses. There is not software protective enough for your computer to be safe from everything. POP-UPS, FRAUD, VIRUSIS, PAY ATTENTION!
You need to know what to do, how to be safe; what happens when your not. I know from previous experience that you do not want to put things like numbers, addresses, EVEN NAMES! I know you think that this information is just for the “stupid’ people but who’s going to explain to your mother that what happened when a 40 year old man or woman took you…can you explain?
You don’t know all the tricks of the people. They can get you very easily. Advertisements, Everyone wants a iphone or a new MP4 player right? Well that’s exactly how they get you. They could be anybody from rapists trying to find you, to sales people trying to sell a product. It is very easy for you to want to play a game, on the side of your webpage or it says you won, CLICK ME! Next thing you know you’ll be buying a new computer because its too many viruses to reboot.
In closing, I would like to say that YOU, YES YOU, need to BE AWARE! Don’t be fooled into giving info. Know what you’re doing when you decide to join a chat room. Learn that everyone isn’t always who they say they are. Surf the internet; don’t let the internet surf you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sincerely,
Ayanna Dye
